Inguinal Hernia

•    Q: Is it mandatory to place a mesh in order to repair my groin hernia?
•    A: Yes, since it reduces the risk of recurrence and postoperative pain considerably.

•    Q: Will I have an adverse reaction to the presence of this mesh?
•    A: Meshes are made and placed actually expecting a reaction from the body to it, the clue here is the type of mesh used in order to have an adequate reaction and depends on the case, Dr. Rosales will decide the best material depending on what is best for you.

•    Q: Will this mesh need to be removed on the future?
•    A: No, can stay in your body for life, and it actually “integrates” with your own tissues.

•    Q: If I have hernias on both groins, can they be repaired on the same procedure?
•    A: Yes, it is actually another advantage of being done by laparoscopy, patients with hernias on one side, are more prone to have a subclinical hernias on the other groin.

•    Q: What is the expected hospital stay after surgery?
•    A: You will be discharged the next morning after surgery.

•    A: Yes, but with the mesh placement it is reduced under 1%.

•    Q: Will the mesh be the same one I would get if my procedure were done in the US?
•    A: It will be exactly the same brand and type of mesh; we only use FDA approved medical supplies.

•    Q: If the laparoscopic approach is not the way I want my hernia to be repaired or not suitable for my case, can I still turn to laparoscopic solutions to treat my hernia?
•    A: Of course, we are qualified and experienced also in the “open” hernia repair and we will be glad to help.

•    Q: Will my recovery be painful?
•    A: Not at all, this is actually one of the biggest advantages of the laparoscopic approach, less pain and fast recovery.
